A HYMN FOR TODAY
Flung to the heedless winds,
Or on the waters cast,
The martyrs’ ashes, watched,
Shall gathered be at last.
And from that scattered dust,
Around us and abroad,
Shall spring a plenteous seed,
Of witnesses for God.
The Father hath received
Their latest living breath,
And vain is Satan’s boast
Of vict’ry in their death.
Still, still, though dead, they speak,
And, trumpet-tongued, proclaim
To many a wak’ning land
The one availing name.
6.6.6.6 – Martin Luther, 1523 (trans. John A. Messenger, 1843) Tune: IBSTONE – Maria Tiddeman, 1875 #723 in Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs, 2012

Luther wrote some great hymns that have stood the test of time. It has been almost 500 years since he sparked the Reformation movement. http://bramanswanderings.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/reformation-day/
